The United States has imposed financial sanctions on Georgian businessman and founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party, Bidzina Ivanishvili, freezing all assets under US jurisdiction or held by US citizens.

The sanctions fall under Executive Order 14024, which targets individuals involved in actions undermining democratic processes, national security, or US foreign policy. Under this order, Ivanishvili’s property and assets in the US have been blocked, and American citizens and companies are prohibited from engaging in financial or commercial transactions with him.

These measures effectively isolate Ivanishvili from not only the US financial system but also the global financial network, as international institutions often comply with US sanctions to avoid secondary penalties.

The U.S. Department of Treasury stated: “All assets located in the United States or under the ownership or control of US persons will be blocked (frozen). Under Bidzina Ivanishvili’s leadership, the Georgian Dream advanced Kremlin interests by derailing Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic trajectory, directly contradicting the Georgian Constitution and the will of the Georgian people.”

The sanctions represent a significant move amid growing tensions over alleged Russian influence in Georgia and its impact on the country’s democratic and geopolitical orientation.
