At least 14 people were killed and 44 injured in a large-scale overnight attack by Russian forces on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, Ukrainian authorities reported Tuesday morning.

The strikes, carried out after midnight on June 17, involved a combination of drones and missiles that targeted residential and civilian infrastructure across the city. Explosions caused extensive damage to buildings, including homes, a dormitory of the Kyiv Aviation Institute, and other civilian structures. Fires broke out at several locations.

Details of the casualties were released after 8 a.m. local time via Telegram by Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko and the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Timur Tkachenko. Initial reports had confirmed injuries to more than 40 people, but the death toll has since risen.

Beyond Kyiv, the attack also affected other regions. According to Klymenko, six people were injured in the Odessa region, one in the Kyiv region, and one in the Chernihiv region. He said that homes, educational institutions, and critical infrastructure facilities were hit in the overnight barrage.
