At least 243 children have been killed since the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine reported on Wednesday, on the International Children’s Day.

The agency said that 446 children were injured in Ukraine due to the Russian aggression.

The Prosecutor’s Office suggested that 1,937 educational institutions were damaged in the war, of which 181 were completely destroyed.

It noted that due to active hostilities in the territories temporarily occupied by Russia, these numbers are expected to rise.

CNN has cited the United Nations Children’s Fund as saying that  three  million children inside the country are in need of humanitarian assistance, and more than 2.2 million have fled the country.

Russia attacked Ukraine on 24 February. During this time, despite numerous attempts, Russia was unable to take control of capital Kyiv.
