At least 40 trapped as Landslide hits Shovi resort in western Racha municipality

At least 40 individuals remain trapped on the territory of hotel Sunset Shovi after the landslide hit the popular Shovi resort in the Racha municipality of western Georgia late on Thursday, local authorities told the media. 

The Georgian Interior Ministry has sent two helicopters to evacuate the individuals as the disaster had damaged bridges and other infrastructure. 

Initial media reports said 16 individuals, including children, had been trapped in the resort. 

A video has gone viral in the social media about how an unidentified individual saves a child trapped under a landslide. 

Those trapped in the vicinity of the hotel said the mood at the site reaches at least two meters.
