Claudia Arpa, the Chair of the Federal Council of Austria, who made her official visit to Georgia on Monday, called on the country’s authorities to continue their efforts to meet conditions for the country’s European integration, after congratulating Tbilisi on the European Commission’s positive recommendation last week to the Council to grant Tbilisi the bloc’s candidate status in December.

The visiting official said the country should meet the nine conditions, the candidacy status is expected to come with, for opening accession talks with the EU and final integration.

Shalva Papaushvili, the Georgian Parliament Speaker, who hosted Arpa, commended “positively and dynamically developing” ties between the two states and thanked the Austrian Government for supporting Georgia’s territorial integrity and its EU integration goals.

He also briefed the official about the Government’s efforts on the country’s EU path.
