Two foreign citizens arrested in Batumi on major drug charges

Officers from the Adjara Police Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia have arrested two foreign nationals in Batumi on suspicion of illegally purchasing and possessing an especially large quantity of narcotics and facilitating their sale.
The detainees are a 32-year-old citizen of Azerbaijan, identified by the initials N.A., and a 32-year-old citizen of Turkey, identified as Sh.Ch., the ministry said on Friday.
Police said that during searches of the suspects’ persons and temporary residences, officers seized an especially large quantity of the narcotic substance heroin as evidence.
Investigators alleged that the suspects were packaging the drugs and placing them at various locations across Batumi for distribution.
The offences carry a potential sentence of up to 20 years or life imprisonment, according to the ministry.
