Police in Georgia have arrested two foreign nationals on suspicion of illegally possessing and facilitating the sale of large and especially large quantities of narcotic and psychotropic substances.

Officers from the central criminal police department’s Adjara division in western Georgia detained two men - citizens of Azerbaijan and Turkey, born in 1979 and 1977 - at different times in the Black Sea city of Batumi.

Investigators said searches of the suspects, their vehicle and temporary accommodation led to the seizure of especially large quantities of various narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances prepared for sale.

Police also said materials used for packaging narcotics were recovered during investigative procedures.

The offences carry a potential penalty of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
