Ukrainian Citizen arrested in Batumi on drug trafficking charges

Police in Georgia’s Black Sea resort city of Batumi have arrested a Ukrainian citizen on charges of illegal purchase and possession of a particularly large quantity of narcotics, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia said on Thursday.

The body added officers from the Adjara division of the Central Criminal Police detained the suspect born in 2006.

Law enforcement officials said a search of the suspect’s temporary residence uncovered a particularly large quantity of the narcotic substance Methadone, allegedly prepared for distribution. Materials used for packaging drugs were also seized as evidence.

The crime is punishable by up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
