Police in western Georgia have arrested a Turkish national who was wanted internationally under an Interpol red notice, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has said.

Officers from the Adjara Main Division of the Central Criminal Police Department detained the 1976-born individual, identified as A.I., in the coastal city of Batumi.

The suspect had been sought by Turkish law enforcement authorities on drug-related charges and was listed for arrest through Interpol’s red notice system.

Extradition procedures are now under way in line with Georgian law, the ministry added.
