Georgia’s Interior Ministry on Wednesday said officers from the Central Criminal Police Department’s Adjara Main Division have arrested a Turkish national in Batumi who was being sought internationally through an Interpol red notice.

The detainee, identified as U.A., born in 1993, was wanted by the law enforcement authorities of the Republic of Turkey in connection with a serious criminal offence.

The ministry said the suspect had been subject to an international search request under the Interpol red notice system at the request of Turkish authorities.

Extradition procedures are currently under way in relation to the detained individual.
