Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on China and Hungary to react to Russia’s latest missile and drone attacks on Kyiv, which killed at least eight people, including a child, and injured 45.

Speaking after the overnight strikes, Zelenskyy said countries that had previously urged a ceasefire and diplomacy must now respond to the deaths of civilians. “Children’s deaths should stir the strongest emotions. We expect reactions from everyone who spoke about peace but now prefers silence,” he said.

He accused Russia of choosing “ballistics over negotiations” and urged the international community to impose tougher sanctions on Moscow.

Kyiv’s military administration said the capital was hit by Shahed drones, cruise missiles and Kinzhal ballistic missiles. A five-storey apartment block was struck in the Darnytskyi district, while other residential buildings, a kindergarten and a railway depot were also damaged.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko said damage was recorded at 20 locations across the city, affecting more than 100 sites. Rescue workers continue to clear rubble, with fears that more people may be trapped underneath.
