The US President Joe Biden has congratulated Georgia on its Day of Independence on Thursday in a letter sent to the country’s PM Irakli Garibashvili.

In the letter Biden said that the Georgian and American people “share strong bonds that reflect our spirit of independence and mutual commitment for freedom.”

“Georgia has shown its fierce determination to protect freedom around the world. We deeply value the contribution you have made to global security throughout our 30 -year bilateral relationship, including through our shared commitment and sacrifice in Afghanistan,” Biden said.
Biden also concerned the occupation of twenty percent of Georgian territories by Russia, and that many Georgians were still unable to enjoy their fundamental rights and freedoms.

He said that the United States continued to support Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders and called on Russia to end its occupation of sovereign Georgian territories.

Biden pledged that his country would continue to support the Georgian people on their path “for a future of peace, prosperity and democratic freedom,” and in the reforms which would facilitate the country’s Euro-Atlantic integration.
