US President Joe Biden has declared Oklahoma a disaster zone. In the region, severe winter weather is recorded – record frosts and heavy snowfalls. This is reported by Meteoprog.ua.

The head of the United States also approved a request for additional funding for residents. These funds will go to residents and small businesses in 16 counties of the state.

Individual assistance to those affected by the blizzard was approved at the request of Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt. Funding will help: homeowners; tenants; business owners.

According to US media reports, assistance may also include: free subsidies for temporary housing and home renovations; soft loans to cover the cost of uninsured property; other programs.

In addition, according to the declaration of disaster, all municipalities and counties in Oklahoma will receive government assistance for infrastructure repairs and other costs associated with responding to winter weather.

The arctic air surge has affected more than 150,000,000 people in the southern United States. And especially the state of Texas, where there is practically no snow. The temperature dropped to -18 ° – this is not remembered here for 30 years.

At least one homeless person froze to death. Local people are massively heated by electric heaters, overloading the network. Because of this, 4,000,000 Americans were without light.

There are hundreds of accidents on the roads. Several airports have been closed. Frosts are predicted for another week, so a state of emergency has already been declared in Texas.

Wholesale electricity prices in Texas skyrocketed from $ 50 per MWh to $ 9,000. All the goods from local supermarkets were shredded, residents of the metropolitan areas of Houston and Austin are posting pictures of empty shelves on the network.
