President Joe Biden on Wednesday reiterated his warning to Congress about the “crucial” national security implications for the United States as it pertains to ongoing aid to Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.

Biden convened with leaders from both Democratic and Republican parties in the Senate and the House of Representatives, along with the heads of the Intelligence, Armed Forces, Finance, and Foreign Affairs committees at the White House.

The White House reported that during the meeting, the president engaged in discussions about the “strategic consequences of inaction” with representatives from both chambers of Congress.

President Biden’s administration currently faces a funding shortfall for continued aid to Ukraine, with efforts to secure over $61 billion for Ukraine being hindered by opposition from Republicans in Congress. The Republicans have linked their support for Ukraine to more stringent measures along the Mexican border, aiming to address issues related to illegal immigration.

Republicans control the House of Representatives in the United States Congress, while Democrats, the party of President Biden, hold the majority in the Senate.

Prior to the meeting withBiden, Republican Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, emphasized the priority of ensuring the security of US borders before addressing other concerns.
