Bidzina Giorgobiani, a member of the United Neutral Georgia movement, on Sunday said individuals “effectively fighting crime” in the country were often targeted by media attacks, with State Security Service head Mamuka Mdinaradze becoming the latest focus.
In a social media post, Giorgobiani credited the Government and the Security Service, under Mdinaradze’s leadership, for achievements against corruption, drug trafficking, and organised crime. He noted Mdinaradze, despite recently taking office, had successfully overseen major operations, including preventing a potential terrorist act and safeguarding state resources.
Giorgobiani said these successes had harmed criminal groups that receive support from abroad and certain local political and NGO circles. He argued that some media outlets serve as tools for these groups, portraying criminals as political prisoners and discrediting officials like Mdinaradze with unfounded accusations.
Giorgobiani emphasised that Georgia’s recent progress in anti-corruption efforts and security places the country among the regional leaders and expressed full support for Mdinaradze and other professionals defending national interests.
