Blinken: Russia uses Zaporizhzhya NPP as a “nuclear shield”

The Russian military is striking Ukrainian troops and civilian facilities with military equipment installed at the Zaporizhzhya NPP.  Russians are using the nuclear plant as a “nuclear shield”, as Ukrainians do not strike back to prevent a catastrophe, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said Monday.

“Of course, the Ukrainians cannot return fire, otherwise there will be a terrible accident at the nuclear power plant,” he said.

Blinken called Russia’s actions “the height of irresponsibility” and stressed that Washington was deeply concerned that Moscow is using the nuclear power plant as a military base.
