Body of Georgian Davit Gobejishvili, who was fighting against Russian troops in Ukraine and was killed on March 26, was transferred to Tbilisi via Poland earlier today.

Family, friends and ordinary citizens were waiting for the body at Tbilisi International Airport, calling Gobejishvili a ‘hero.’

Gobejishvili, who was an internally displaced person from Georgia’s Russian-occupied Abkhazia region, was killed in a battle in Irpin, near Kyiv.

Besides Gobejishvili, Gia Beriashvili, Davit Ratiani and Bakhva Chikobava were killed in the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Russian President Vladimir Putin launched  a “special military operation” against Ukraine on February 24 to “demilitarize and denationalize” the country.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine was preceded by Putin’s  recognition of Ukraine’s two separatist regions, Donetsk and Luhansk, as independent states.

Earlier, Russia demanded that Ukraine not become a member of NATO.

Despite Russia’s claims that its armed forces are bombing only military facilities in Ukraine, homes, educational and administrative institutions, places of worship, shops and various infrastructures have been destroyed in Ukrainian cities.

Kyiv says that thousands of civilians have been  killed.
