Body of Zakaria Shubitidze, a Georgian volunteer killed by Russian troops in Ukraine last week, was repatriated to his homeland earlier on Tuesday.

His family members, ordinary citizens and the representatives of the domestic opposition parties were awaiting the repatriation process in Tbilisi airport.

The volunteer from the Georgian legion fighting against Russia in Ukraine became the target of a mass artillery attack on September 18 and received serious wounds.

More than 50 Georgian volunteers have been killed in Ukraine since the outbreak of hostilities last year.
