The UK Embassy to Georgia has agreed with the recent assessment of the ODIHR observation mission and stated that recent municipal elections in Georgia were ‘well-administered.’ However, the race was marred by pressure on voters and negative rhetoric.

“The UK calls on Georgian political leadership to tackle shortcomings, build trust and for all elected to work together on local issues in line with wishes of the Georgian people,” said the embassy.

5,309 representatives from political parties, 35,198 observers from 100 local organisations, and 1,202 foreign observers from 52 international organisations monitored the municipal election run-offs on Saturday.

The ruling party has won 63 out of 64 mayoral constituencies in municipal elections and received 47% of the votes in the proportional part of the polls.

The opposition claims that the GD fabricated the elections and announced large rallies in all big cities of Georgia.
