The misuse of Georgia’s so‑called foreign agents law is causing serious concern about the state of democracy in the country, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys has said.

Speaking in Brussels ahead of a meeting of European Union foreign ministers, Budrys said the situation in Georgia was becoming increasingly worrying.

“The fact that the situation in Georgia is deteriorating is, of course, concerning. We are discussing this issue today,” he said. “The misuse of the so‑called ‘foreign agents’ law in Georgia raises deep concern regarding the state of democracy.”

He added that he looked forward to discussing with his EU counterparts what steps could be taken in response.
