Family members of cancer patients on Monday rallied at the Government office in Tbilisi, demanding the lift on an annual limit of state funding amounting to ₾25,000 ($9,440).

The demonstrators are demanding the Government to fully meet the treatment funds of specific patients, adjusted to their “individual needs”.

Gvantsa Apkhaidze, the chair of the domestic Unite for Life organization promoting the rights of cancer patients, urged Irakli Kobakhidze, the newly appointed Prime Minister of Georgia, to create a related working group.

She asserted the format should act under the PM’s supervision for a “timely response” and address the “systemic shortcomings” creating “daily problems” for cancer patients, before sending a letter to the PM outlining the requests.
