Cargo ship detained in Georgian waters over navigation breach

A cargo vessel sailing under the Mongolian flag has been detained by Georgian authorities for breaching navigation regulations in the country’s territorial waters.

According to Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, officers from the Coast Guard Department of the Border Police intercepted the ship, HASKAL, after it was found to be in violation of maritime rules.

The vessel’s captain, an Azerbaijani national, faced legal action under Georgia’s Administrative Offenses Code and was issued a fine of 10,000 GEL ($3,800). Officials confirmed that the penalty was paid, and the ship was subsequently allowed to continue its journey.
