China has officially arrested Australian journalist

Australian journalist Cheng Lei was arrested after six months in China on suspicion of illegally transferring state secrets abroad, Australian Foreign Minister Maris Payne said.

"The Chinese authorities reported that Cheng was arrested on suspicion of illegally transferring state secrets abroad. Cheng has been detained since August 13, 2020," – the minister's website said.

Cheng Lei has worked as a presenter for the Chinese English-language television station CGTN. Her friends got worried when she stopped responding to messages. The PRC authorities notified her of her arrest on August 14.
