A delegation from the International Department of the Central Committee of the ruling Communist Party of China paid an official visit to Tbilisi this week, discussing ties and introducing Xi Jinping Thoughts on a New Era of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in meetings with top Georgian officials, the Chinese embassy said.

Led by Chen Zhou, Deputy Minister of the International Department, the delegation engaged in discussions with Georgian leaders on April 15-16.

During their visit, the Chinese delegation held meetings with Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili, and Minister of Economy Levan Davitashvili, among others. The talks centered on various aspects of the relationship between the two countries, highlighting topics such as trade, strategic partnership, and the “one China principle,” along with mutual support for territorial integrity, the  embassy said.

However, beyond the reported discussions, the Chinese Embassy in Georgia revealed that the meetings delved into the ideological framework of “Xi Jinping Thoughts on a New Era of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics.” This political doctrine, championed by President Xi Jinping and enshrined in the Chinese Constitution since 2017, emphasizes the role of the Communist Party in Chinese society and outlines strategies for achieving the “Chinese Dream” of national rejuvenation.

According to the embassy’s statement, Georgian leaders engaged in in-depth discussions to gain a better understanding of Xi Jinping’s ideological perspectives and China’s recent socio-economic achievements.

The inclusion of “Xi Jinping Thoughts” as a compulsory subject in Chinese schools from 2021 highlights China’s commitment to promoting its ideological principles domestically and internationally. Georgia and China signed a strategic partnership last year.
