Citizens party joins President’s Georgian Charter initiative

The Citizens party has announced its support for and participation in the Georgian Charter action plan initiated by the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili.

“For the European future of the country, and for institutional and democratic development, it is important to implement fundamental reforms. Therefore, the Citizens party shares and joins the action plan initiated by the president – the ‘Georgian Charter’,” the party said.President Zourabichvili presented the Georgian Charter action plan to political parties on May 26.

Several opposition political parties have confirmed their readiness to join the initiative ahead of the October’s general elections, with the Georgian Dream ruling party slamming the initiative as a “local war charter”. 

President Zourabichvili unveiled the plan during the Independence Day celebrations on Sunday, emphasizing that it did not require a unified list or any other obligatory coalitions. Political party representatives were present at the event.
