Nata Peradze, a Georgian civic activist, on Wednesday claimed she was attacked by a group of people in the Digomi village of Tbilisi. Peradze shared her experience on social media, explaining that while she was buying a pie at a local bakery, the group surrounded her, shouted insults, and demanded she leave for her safety. They recorded the incident on their phones, she added.

“I am currently at the police department in Digomi village. While we were at the bakery buying a pie, a group of individuals approached us aggressively, shouting and using profanity. They insisted we leave for our safety, all while recording themselves on their phones”, Peradze posted.

This incident comes after Peradze was recently sentenced to five days of administrative detention for throwing paint at an icon depicting Joseph Stalin in Tbilisi’s main Holy Trinity Cathedral. She had posted a photo of the act on social media, leading to police investigation. Peradze had also reported receiving threats online and by phone.

Following the Cathedral incident, a pro-Russian Conservative Movement organized a demonstration near Peradze’s home in protest.
