Clashes near the President’s Office: 17 people were detained, a criminal case was opened

During a rally in support of convicted activist Sergei Sternenko, 17 people were detained on Bankova Street. On the fact of clashes near the Office of the President, law enforcement officers opened a criminal case.

This was reported by the police in Kiev.

The protesters detained on Bankova Street were taken to the police station.

"During the scuffle, the protesters used gas canisters and threw flares at law enforcement officers. As a result, 17 active participants who violated law and order were taken to the police department," – said the law enforcement officers.

Investigators began criminal proceedings under Article 342 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, that is, resistance to a representative of a law enforcement agency. The sanction of the article provides for punishment from a fine to restriction of freedom for 3 years.

In addition, the police said that as a result of clashes near the Office of the President, several security forces were injured. The police received eye burns and needed medical attention.

Let us remind you that the protest action near the President's Office began after the Primorsky Court of Odessa sentenced activist Sergei Sternenko to 7 years in prison. The court found the activist guilty of kidnapping.
