Spanish diplomat Javier Colomina, who took the office of the NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia back in September 2021, says that Russia wants Georgia and Ukraine to act in the way it wishes.
“Russia wants to dictate the choices countries like Ukraine and Georgia to get to make with regard to their own future. As NATO Foreign ministers expressed recently in Riga, we are committed to the decisions adopted in the 2008 Bucharest summit,” Colomina said.
Russia believes that NATO should disregard its decision made at its 2008 Bucharest summit on the future membership of Georgia and Ukraine.
The country believes that NATO enlargement poses threats to its security.
