The concept of the events dedicated to Georgia’s Day of Independence on May 26 will be “towards Europe,” an organizer of the day from the Administration of the Government of Georgia Tata Svanadze said on Friday.

She stated that along with the swearing-in ceremony, the day will be marked with various events in central Tbilisi and regions.

“The events dedicated to the date will begin at 11:00, and the swearing-in ceremony will be held at 12:00 in Tbilisi and five other cities,” Svanadze said.

“May 26 carried different concepts in previous years. This year, through applying for EU membership, Georgia has made it clear once again that we wish to return to our European family, as our history and values are European. Thus, this year’s concept is towards Europe,” Svanadze stated.

She suggested that there will be various activities around this topic from 11:00 on Rustaveli Avenue, such as cognitive, historical, exhibition stands, special spaces, as well as children’s zones, etc.

“At 17:10, the Georgian national anthem will be played at the traditional time. This is the time when Noe Jordania declared Georgia’s independence,” Svanadze stated.

The Georgian top officials are scheduled to attend the events.

Georgia applied for EU membership on March 3 of this year  and received the EU self-assessment questionnaire to gain the EU candidate status on April 11.

Georgia submitted the completed questionnaire, containing answers to more than 2,800 questions earlier this month, while the EU is expected to present its report over the questionnaire in June.
