Georgia has confirmed 1,419 cases of a new strain of coronavirus dubbed as Omicron. However, health officials say that the figure would be much higher as due to mild symptoms less people get tested and also tests do not always catch the variant of the virus.

The strain was detected first in South Africa at the end of the last year and it has spread rapidly across the world.

Georgian authorities call on the people to get a booster shot of the vaccine to prevent complications.

The country has reported 8,767 new Covid-19 cases of 56, 386 tests, 5,173 recoveries, and 49 deaths in the past 24 hours.

64,625 remain infected with coronavirus in Georgia as of now.

1,202,951 people have been fully vaccinated in Georgia since March 2021.
