Ruling party MP Irakli Kadagishvili said on Friday that wanted former defence minister David Kezerashvili and former interior minister Vano Merasbihvili stood behind the “conspiracy” against the current head of the United National Movement opposition party Nika Melia, in comments of the demands of several UNM members over the need of a new party chair.
Kadagishvili suggested that the brothers Bacho and Data Akhalaia, the former law enforcement officials under the UNM, were supporting Melia.
“We already know who is leading this conspiracy against Melia. It is the unity of Kezerashvili and Merabishvili, whose favorite is Khabeishvili [Levan Khabeishvili, the UNM member], but it seems that Melia also has his defenders. According to my information, these are the brothers Akhalaia, who were in controversy with Merabishvili even while in power”, Kadagishvili said.
Melia said that he was ready to re-run for the post, while Khabeishvili on Thursday dismissed reports over his running for the position.
