Controlled explosions carried out in central London after suspicious vehicle found

A series of controlled explosions were carried out in central London today after a “suspicious vehicle” was reported near Regent Street and New Burlington Street around 1 PM.
Metropolitan Police officers quickly attended the scene, evacuated the surrounding area, and implemented road closures as a precaution while specialist teams inspected the vehicle.
Specialist officers safely carried out a number of controlled explosions, and the vehicle was later confirmed to be non-suspicious. The Metropolitan Police’s Westminster branch posted updates on X, stating:
“Road closures are in place in the vicinity of Regent Street and New Burlington Street while officers investigate a suspicious vehicle. Officers have carried out a number of controlled explosions as a precautionary measure.”
In their latest update, the police confirmed: “This incident has now been fully stood down. The vehicle was found to be non-suspicious.”
Roads in the area have since reopened, and normal activity has resumed. The swift response ensured public safety while minimizing disruption in one of London’s busiest districts.
