Coronavirus cases are on an upward trend both in Georgia and abroad, the peak of the virus is expected in Autumn, Tbilisi Infectious Diseases and AIDS Centre said Wednesday.

The hospital encouraged the public to receive the coronavirus vaccine to maintain the “current stable situation,” as all coronavirus restrictions have been lifted.

“Even if we were unable to prevent an increase in the number of COVID cases, it is vitally important to keep the death rate at its current minimum,” said the hospital, calling on the people to test for coronavirus and stay home as soon as symptoms appear.

In the last one week, 2.4 percent more people contracted coronavirus than in the previous week, the National Center for Disease Control said on Tuesday.

For the first time in recent weeks, the seven-day positivity rate was above four percent (4.05%).

2,570 people contracted the virus between June 27 and July 3, while the figure stood at 1,056 between June 20 and 26.
