The next round of trilateral negotiations had been scheduled for this week but has been postponed at the request of the United States, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said.
Speaking after a meeting with Ukraine’s negotiation team, Zelenskyy reviewed the outcomes of the discussions and addressed plans for the next round of talks involving Ukraine, the United States and Russia. He said the meeting was postponed due to the situation currently unfolding in the Middle East.
“It was important to review the results of our team’s work. We are in practically 24/7 communication with the American side. At the moment, our partners’ priority and full attention are focused on the situation around Iran, and therefore, at the proposal of the American side, the meeting planned for this week has been postponed,” Zelenskyy said.
At the same time, the Ukrainian President stressed that Ukraine remains ready for negotiations in any format that could help bring an end to the Russia–Ukraine War.
“We see that the Russians are now trying to manipulate the situation in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region in order to intensify their aggression and turn strikes by the Iranian regime against its neighbours and US bases into what would effectively be a second front in Russia’s war against Ukraine and, more broadly, the entire West,” Zelenskyy stated.
