US Ambassador to Georgia Robin Dunnigan announces retirement

The Ambassador concluded by reaffirming her commitment to strengthening the US-Georgia relationship during her remaining weeks in office.

Robin Dunnigan, the United States Ambassador to Georgia, has announced her decision to retire after more than three decades in diplomatic service. In a statement released on Thursday, Ambassador Dunnigan emphasized that the move was entirely personal and not prompted by any request from Washington.
“After 33 years representing the United States as a diplomat, I have made the personal decision to retire,” she said. “Serving as the US Ambassador to Georgia has been the greatest honor and privilege of my entire career, and I will forever be proud of the work of the tremendous US government team, in Washington and here at the US Embassy in Tbilisi, has done to advance the partnership between our peoples and our countries.”
Dunnigan, who was appointed to the post in 2023, clarified that her decision was made independently. “This is a fully personal decision. I have not been asked to return by my government,” she stated.
Reflecting on her time in Georgia, she expressed gratitude for the hospitality shown to her and her family. “My family and I have been blessed to have experienced the incredible generosity and warmth of the Georgian people,” she wrote. “No matter where we have traveled in this amazingly beautiful country we have been welcomed with unparalleled Georgian hospitality. We have admired the heart, soul, and passion of all Georgians.”
The Ambassador concluded by reaffirming her commitment to strengthening the US-Georgia relationship during her remaining weeks in office. “I will continue to work hard to strengthen our ties until I depart in July,” she said.
