The Mayor of Zugdidi, David Kodua, has addressed social media reports concerning the rehabilitation of the Anaklia-Ganmukhuri pedestrian bridge.

Kodua on Thursday said that the information circulating online was misleading and created unnecessary public concern.

“Before the full rehabilitation begins, repairs to the damaged sections of the pedestrian bridge are actively underway. The work is ongoing and will be completed in a few days. However, some marginal groups have circulated photos of the works, suggesting they were taken after the rehabilitation, which is not the case - the project is still in progress,” he wrote on his official Facebook page.

The mayor noted that large-scale project works to renovate the pedestrian bridge and the wider Anaklia-Ganmukhuri seaside area were scheduled to begin soon. The Ministry of Infrastructure and the Municipal Development Fund have signed a contract with the winning company, with a total project duration of eight months.

“In the meantime, we are carrying out repairs locally to ensure safe passage on the bridge during the tourist season. The announcement regarding the restoration of the damaged sections was made at the beginning of November last year,” Kodua added.
