David Matikashvili, Chair of the Procedural Issues Committee of the Georgian Parliament, has called for tighter regulation of prices on essential goods, including food, medicine, and fuel.
Speaking to journalists, Matikashvili emphasised that prices should be reduced to levels that are comparable with those in European countries.
“The current practice regarding pricing in the country needs to change and align with standards seen in Europe,” Matikashvili said.
He noted that several meetings have already been held, including discussions at the Government Administration, and that a parliamentary commission will soon be established to oversee the issue.
“The authorities will do everything within the law to replace the current incorrect practices with proper and legal procedures, so that citizens can purchase essential goods at fair and logical prices - not at double, triple, or quadruple the cost currently seen on shop shelves,” he said.
Matikashvili also highlighted the Government’s initiative, describing it as an important step that will be fully supported and implemented through a temporary parliamentary commission.
