De facto Abkhaz president signs decree on military conscription

The president of Georgia’s western Abkhazia region, Aslan Bzhania, on Monday signed a decree on military conscription for October-December, which is an annual regulation and applies to citizens aged 18 to 27.

A similar conscription was announced in Abkhazia in March of the last year, with the mentioned law having been in force since 2014.

Abkhaz de facto governmental agencies have not announced whether the recent military conscription in the region is connected with the partial mobilization recently announced in Russia for its war against Ukraine. 

However, according to reports available so far, despite their Russian citizenship, the residents of Abkhazia do not participate in the mobilization.

A few days ago, Abkhazia’s de facto foreign ministry called the information spread on social media about the mobilization of Abkhazians “fake”.

A partial military mobilization was announced in Russia on September 21. At this stage, as the Kremlin says,conscription applies only to those citizens who are currently in the reserve and have relevant military experience. According to official reports, the mobilization will affect 300,000 people.
