On Wednesday, the de facto authorities in Georgia’s Abkhazia region, currently under Russian occupation, approved the transfer of the region’s resort territory in the city of Bichvinta to Russia.

The deal received approval from 25 de facto lawmakers during an early morning session.

This decision has faced prolonged opposition from local residents and the opposition.

In 2008, following the Russia-Georgia war, Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali, two regions in Georgia.

However, the international community, with only Venezuela, Nicaragua, Nauru, and Syria supporting the move, continues to call on Russia to withdraw its troops from Georgian regions.
