De facto Tskhinvali ‘official’ meets Taliban’s leadership

Aleksey Maximov, who has been appointed as the head of the ‘foreign intelligence service’ of Georgia’s Russian occupied Tskhinvali region has met with Abdul Ghani, Vice-PM under Taliban’s government in Afghanistan. 

Maximov was invited from Russia shortly before. 

‘Regional and security issues have been discussed during the meeting,’ the Taliban claims. 

Tskhinvali has the goal of Afghanistan to recognise it ‘as an independent state.’ 

Since the Russia-Georgia 2008 war only Russia, Nauru,  Nikaragua, Venezuela and Syria have recognised Georgian Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions as independent republics.

The rest of the international community are unanimous that the regions are occupied by Russia. 

The Taliban captured control of Kabul earlier in August, shortly after the US and NATO troops left the country after a 18-year-presence there.
