Georgian Defence Minister Juansher Burchuladze on Wednesday claimed there were no impeding circumstances” for Tbilisi’s new airport in Vaziani, near the capital city, at the NATO-Georgia joint training cente that causes displeasure in Moscow.

Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili in June claimed Tbilisi needed a new airport, and that the location could be suitable for the goal, without saying whether the initiative could affect the only and the most fully equipped military base near the capital city, which has been hosting international level military exercises for years, with the participation of hundreds of servicememers.

The Defence and Security Committee of the Parliament of Georgia listened to Burchuladze in a closed format on October Wednesday.

“We talked about the possible development of the Vaziani airport. We agreed that there is no radical position that an airport cannot be built here. The members of the defence (committee) heard the position of the defense forces. On the contrary, there may be a promising and better situation and location. So let’s wait for assessments by professionals”, he said.
