Protest marches have erupted on the streets of Tbilisi under the slogan “Spring of the People,” as demonstrators call for political change in Georgia.
Students from several universities, including Tbilisi State University and Ilia State University, have already begun their protest marches, demanding new elections, the release of detained activists, and an accelerated path toward European integration.
Simultaneously, another demonstration is making its way from Republic Square toward Rustaveli Avenue. Protesters are carrying banners and flags with various messages, chanting slogans as they move through the city.
The day’s events are set to culminate in a speech by Georgia’s fifth president, Salome Zourabichvili, who is expected to address the gathered crowds later in the evening.
