Georgian authorities have arrested an Israeli national on charges of illegally possessing and attempting to import narcotics into the country, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has said.

According to the ministry, officers from the Central Criminal Police Department, working jointly with the Revenue Service’s Customs Department, detained a 25-year-old Israeli citizen at Tbilisi International Airport.

During an inspection of the suspect’s luggage, police seized eight tablets and tablet fragments containing the narcotic substance amphetamine, which were taken as evidence.

The investigation is being conducted under Articles 260 and 262 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which cover the illegal acquisition, possession and importation of narcotic drugs. The offences carry a potential prison sentence of up to 12 years.
