Foreign national arrested at Georgian checkpoint over large-scale drug charges

The crimes carry a sentence of between eight and 12 years in prison

A foreign national has been detained at Georgia’s border with Turkey on charges of illegal possession and importation of a large quantity of drugs, the Georgian Interior Ministry said on Friday.
The suspect, identified by the initials U.T. and born in 1985, was arrested at the Sarpi Border Crossing during a joint operation involving the Adjara division of the Central Criminal Police Department and the Customs Department of the Revenue Service under the Ministry of Finance.
Officers stopped a vehicle driven by the Turkish citizen and carried out a detailed inspection, during which they seized significant quantities of substances identified as MDMA and Amphetamine as evidence.
The crimes carry a sentence of between eight and 12 years in prison.
