Police in Tbilisi have arrested four people on suspicion of possessing and facilitating the distribution of particularly large quantities of illegal narcotics, Georgia’s Interior Ministry has said.

The arrests were carried out by officers from the Old Tbilisi division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia as part of an operation led by the capital’s police department.

Those detained include both Georgian and foreign nationals.

The ministry said searches of the suspects, their homes and locations identified by the accused led to the seizure of multiple types of narcotic substances allegedly prepared for sale.

The offences carry penalties of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
