Foreign national arrested in Georgia on drug trafficking charges

Officers from the Central Criminal Police Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, in cooperation with the Customs Department of the Revenue Service under the Ministry of Finance, have arrested a foreign national on drug-related charges.
The Georgian Interior Ministry said an Israeli citizen born in 2003, identified as H.A., has been detained on charges of the illegal acquisition, possession, and attempted smuggling of a particularly large quantity of psychotropic substances into Georgia.
Law enforcement officers conducted investigative measures at Tbilisi International Airport, including a search of the suspect’s luggage, during which they seized 3,080 tablets of the psychotropic substance pregabalin as evidence.
An investigation has been launched under Articles 261 and 263 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The offenses are punishable by up to 12 years of imprisonment, the Ministry stated.
