Former MP Dimitri Tskitishvili on Tuesday announced on social media that he had parted ways with the political party For Georgia, citing “fundamental differences” over the issue of elections.
“For full clarity, I want to state publicly that my path and that of the political party For Georgia have diverged,” Tskitishvili wrote, noting that he was never formally a member of the party.
He explained that the disagreement was not merely about whether to participate in elections but a deeper divide over how the issue should be approached.
“For me, the October 4 elections cannot and will not be a tactical or step-by-step matter, even though I generally support institutional democratic struggle. Under the current circumstances, participation in elections in this form and dynamic cannot serve the goal of returning the country to a democratic framework,” he said.
Tskitishvili noted participation would only make sense if opposition forces acted in a coordinated manner, creating at least a small chance of defeating the ruling regime in what he described as an unfair political contest. Instead, he argued, the existing fragmentation of political forces is “the least favourable path” to supporting public protest and challenging the Government.
“I want to believe that some path will still bring results, but everyone must understand that on October 5, a different reality may emerge - and we must be ready for it,” Tskitishvili concluded.
