Direct flights between Georgia and the United Kingdom are set to begin at the end of March, despite the UK’s recent decision to suspend funding for specific government projects in Georgia due to concerns over the Government’s decision last year to halt EU integration until 2028.

“Today, we see positive statements about new partnerships and cooperation in the Georgian economy,” said Gareth Ward, the UK Ambassador to Georgia on Thursday. “The United Kingdom wants the Georgian economy to succeed. We believe Georgia should have an open and free economy and continue the reforms to ensure this.”

While the UK has limited defence and political contacts and suspended certain programmes in response to democratic backsliding, Ambassador Ward emphasized that economic ties remain a priority.
