Director of Seismic Monitoring Center leaves Georgia over imprisonment fears

Tea Godoladze, the Director of Georgia’s National Seismic Monitoring Center, has left the country due to fears of unlawful imprisonment. In an interview with Mtis Ambebi conducted just hours before her departure, Godoladze detailed the circumstances that led to her decision.

The scientist’s decision comes in the wake of a controversial court ruling that acquitted her former partner, who was accused of severe domestic violence against her. Godoladze told Mtis Ambebi, that following this she faced criminal charges, along with verbal attacks from high-ranking members of the ruling Georgian Dream party and an organized smear campaign against her, particularly after the Shovi landslide tragedy.

Speaking about her departure, Godoladze stated, “I can’t change much by sitting in prison. I will continue the fight from abroad. I know far more and am capable of far more than they think.”
