Lawyer Dito Sadzaglishvili has confirmed that opposition leader Nika Gvaramia is being held at the Marneuli Temporary Detention Facility. The information was disclosed by Georgia’s Public Defender’s Office.

“We have been trying to locate Nika Gvaramia for several hours. Unfortunately, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has provided no information regarding his condition or whereabouts. This is particularly alarming given that he was physically assaulted during his arrest, and we are deeply concerned about his health,” Sadzaglishvili stated.

The lawyer criticized the lack of transparency from law enforcement, citing the need for basic updates about Gvaramia’s condition.

“We are heading to Marneuli to assess his health and investigate the legal aspects of his detention—if any legal framework is being adhered to at all. This level of opacity raises serious concerns about his rights and the rule of law,” he added.

Nika Gvaramia, Nika Gvaramia, founder of the opposition party Ahali and a leader in the Coalition for Change, was detained during recent police raids on opposition party offices on Wednesday.
